Sanrio's 50th

image: sanriobb.com

I remember as a kid, my mom has her own share of Sanrio collectibles that she can actually boast, except that she doesn't. When I checked the labels, they were all dated as old as 1976 and I wasn't even born! So maybe you'll have an idea where I got this affinity for premium Sanrio goodies! Too bad, I wasn't able to take pictures of the stuff she had back home in Manila. Maybe when I pay my hometown a visit, I'll try to make time for those photos to share with you. :)

I only initially thought that big-time events, such as the 50th anniversary of Sanrio, will all be happening in the land of Hello Kitty -- Japan! But even I was surprised that western countries go BIG in embracing this undying fad. Well, it's safe to assume that this is a universal fad. No wonder this global company grew into a $5 billion empire with such popular characters as Hello Kitty®, Little Twin Stars®, My Melody®, Patty & Jimmy™, Tuxedosam™, Keroppi®, Badtz-Maru®, Chococat® and lots more.

Now on its 50th year spreading cheer from all ages, inspired by their motto, "small gift, big smile", Sanrio launched a nationwide celebration that will include a cross-country mobile pop-up shop tour and special anchor events in Los Angeles and Miami.

I would really love to attend these events to catch glimpses of my favorite Sanrio characters. Sadly, I'm unable to attend the November 6th Pop Up tour in San Diego because of personal things that I need to attend to first. But who knows, I might show up at the SMALL GIFT event currently being held in LA.

Now for those who wouldn't like to be so unfortunate to miss out on this once in a lifetime event (after all, Sanrio gets to be 50 years once), then take note of the following schedules in your area:
just check out the POP UP Tour schedules in your area.

Small Gift will share a memorable experience and smiles with fans across the country while offering a variety of keepsake Sanrio items and limited edition products to commemorate the company’s golden anniversary. A special 50th Anniversary iPhone App will provide fun facts about all the characters and allow fans to track all 50th Anniversary events, including truck location and product releases. For continually updated information regarding Small Gift, please visit www.sanrio.com/smallgift.

So, what are you waiting for?

Gift Opportunities - Baby Showers

Aside from me being an avid fan for cute, kawaii stuff, I'd also like to impart this liking to others too hence, this blog. This also includes myself literally giving gifts on special occasions.

When you think of giving gifts, think functionality, then see if it's cute enough to give. If the recipient has a wish list (or a registry), it would be easier. I'd just have to choose for the cutest in the list. Simple!

If it's a baby registry, I'd definitely pick the cutest one on the list. Otherwise, I'd be on the lookout for a Hello Kitty or Sanrio item, if deemed appropriate for the event. If it's for a wedding, of course I'd select a more grown-up, appropriate gift for the couple.

I recently had the opportunity to give one of my expecting friends  (now a mom-congrats!) a gift for her baby shower. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend due to unforeseen events, but still likewise happy to send them some love through a gift for the little one. Good thing, they had a registry set up online, and I was able to send the perfect gift for the little angel.

Bedtime Originals Hello Kitty and Puppy Fleece Blanket with Applique - Pink

Not only I chose this because it's kawaii-tainted, but I've also read through the testimonials, all of which had high (5-star) ratings, because of its softness and texture. And yes, my friend surely loved it!

How about you, how do you normally select your gifts?

I collect earrings too!

Didn't I mention before that I absolutely adore jewelry as well?

Particularly cute and elegant earrings and other jewelry, I have what we can somewhat call a "collection". This is really nothing to brag about because most of them are fancy jewelry and no hard core metals or gems involved in every piece. They are my version of eye-pleasers. Sorry, but they're not for sale.

So every week, I may randomly (and hopefully) please you with pieces of my earrings coming from my so-called "collection" which I consider to be very kawaii!

Here's what I can share for now (you can click to enlarge):
Simple pearl drop earrings

Oh, who wouldn't love pearls? With diamonds as first, girls would opt for pearls as a favorite.

This simple and elegant piece was purchased as a bargain, but I forgot where (sorry!). I still wear this piece on casual occasions.

Wallpaper Wednesday: Pochaco

I so adore this cutiepie. I know I already posted this earlier, but I'd like to feature this one since it's sooo cute and adorable! The little chicks also accentuate the cuteness of the entire space :)
Sorry, but I wasn't able to catch the one who made this wallpaper. If it's you, kindly send me an email to mysanriospace@gmail.com. Thanks!

Puma Pink El Rey Perf Plaid

Though this is not a Sanrio item, I deem this appropriate because of my liking to things I consider "kawaii" (cute). Isn't it obvious that a pair of these would be soooo cute cute to look at (and to wear of course!). I also never took notice until my friend showed it to me. He wanted me to look for something like this in the men's department, but at the same time, showed me its female counterpart.

I absolutely want to have one of these, except that I'd rather wear flipflops. I dunno, I just got used to that ever since. I'm not sure if it's an Asian (or Filipino) thing, but we locals would really walk the talk in those comfy flops.

So now, I just look and maybe someday purchase one, when the need arises!
I especially love the plaid print, as it reminded me of the childhood skirts I used to wear in school.
Little Miss Paulinian Pictures, Images and Photos

Oh wait, weren't my skirt prints in gingham or pinstripe?

Going back to the point, I tried searching online for availability and what luck! It's still available here. Now if you have to have one of these, I suggest that you order one today because most sites I saw have already ran out of stock!

Wallpaper Wednesday: The Sakura

This is one of the most elegant wallpapers I ever found. The cherry blossom, locally called in Japan as the sakura, is also one of my favorite flowers. It actually reminded me of my tour in Okinawa, Japan where it was in full bloom when I visited the place.

Since I absolutely love the color pink as well as the sakura, I might as well share its beauty to you :)

Elegance and simplicity can also be kawaii!
